Born and raised in Nova Scotia, I've returned to my roots, reconnecting with the rugged coastline and vibrant community that inspired my childhood, after serving in the military and being stationed in Victoria, BC. Now, I reside here with my family, gratefully f
Hi, I'm Blair Murphy, the light painter and artist behind Maritime Light Art. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, I've returned to my roots, reconnecting with the rugged coastline and vibrant community that inspired my childhood, after serving in the military and being stationed in Victoria, BC. Now, I reside here with my family, gratefully for the opportunity to rediscover my passion for art in the place that sparks my creativity. As a military veteran living with a disability, I bring a unique perspective to my art.
With a diploma in Architectural Engineering Technician, I've always been fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technicality. After a hiatus, I rediscovered my passion for art, which was a big part of my life in my younger years. My military and martial arts background has taught me valuable skills like discipline, focus, and perseverance, which I now apply to my artistic journey. While self-teaching astrophotography in 2020, I serendipitously discovered light art photography, altering my creative path. I continue to explore the captivating possibilities of light art, seeking to expand my knowledge and experience in this art style while experimenting with other types of art. I strive to push the boundaries of my creativity in artistic expression, growing as an artist and sharing my vision with the world.

Light Art, also know as light painting, is a unique and mesmerizing form of art that uses light as the medium to create stunning visual effects. Imagine using a paintbrush, but instead of paint, you're using light to create vibrant, glowing strokes in the air. Light Painters use specialized tools, like LED lights, glow sticks, or even fire, to create intricate patterns, shapes, and designs that are captured through long-exposure photography. The result is a breathtaking image that seems to come alive with the movement and energy. Think of it like drawing with light, but instead of creating a static image, you're crafting a dynamic, ethereal experience that seems to pulse with an otherworldly energy. So, basically a light painter is like a painter, but instead of painting on a canvas, I paint on the air, using light as my brushstroke, and the darkness as my canvas. With every stroke, I bring a new dimension to life, crafting a world that's both fleeting and eternal.
